I am considering purchasing a very old home (blt 1910) that needs all new HVAC service. Can anyone give me a guestimate as to what that would cost? The house is gutted so there is total access to the walls. The house is 2 stories and only 900 sf. The house is in Richmond, VA, where we have pretty mild winters, so was thinking an electric heat pump would be fine. There appears to be duct work in place so hopefully that wouldn't have to be replaced.
Thanks for your help.

1910 Id go with LP or natural! You will have a lot of heat loss. Your old duct could be used but with out seeing it hard to say! Id replace it! Have 3 contractors do heat load on home with quote's.

I should say that the house will be practically new in the end. New siding and insulation. The only thing original will be the studs and the floor,

I would suggest finding a reputable professional in the area and have them run a load calculation and size the ducts accordingly. Don't lean too hard on keeping existing ducts if they don't meet the size requirements or you will kick yourself while you try to sleep in a hot second floor.
