Hello everybody.
I have a small bedroom with an electric baseboard controlled by a wall-mounted thermostat. The thermostat is set at about 20C (70F), but it gets very cold before the heat comes on, and gets extremely hot before it shuts off again. I assumed the thermostat was not working correctly and replaced it with a new one (Dimplex model #6700260102). Same problem. Lately I've just been turning the thermostat way down and putting a portable space heater in the room, but it would be nice to get it working properly.
I've just been playing with the thermostat - twisting the knob and listening to when it "clicks". It seems that it doesn't click on until the room temperature is about 5C (9F) less than the temp on the knob, and it doesn't click off again until the room temp is about 5C (9F) more than the set temp. Is my "listen for the clicks" test a reasonable test of how the thermostat is working?
It looks like I've just replaced one bad thermostat with another one. (Admittedly I bought the cheapest one I could find.) I think my next step is to swap thermostats with one from elsewhere in the house and see if it makes any difference.
Any suggestions?

So I replaced the thermostat AGAIN, and now my heat is under control. The moral of the story is, a new part is not necessarily a good part.

I've never heard of Dimplex line.. I did a search, and it looks like a UK product.
I like the Honeywell Electronic t-stat that has a better temp control, where the older style bi metal has a large temp sing as you were experincingn with.
