Good Morning,
Last night we were woken up by a steady thumping noise coming from our AC unit in the garage. The heat was on and working, however, the unit was making a steady thumping noise (or similar to locamotive engine) from the upper part of the unit (plaster? section close to the ceiling). The unit is a Carrier 2.5 ton, 12 Seer. Model # FX4BNF030. Can anyone diagnose the problem and suggest a solution for me to try? Thanks very much.

Have you removed the blower door and take a look inside (POWER OFF) to see if anything has gotten into the blower cage itself?
Air filter good?
If good, grab the shaft, and see if there is play on the blower motor.

As already posted above..... You will have to take the cover off and have a look. Be sure to also check the blower wheel itself. Have seen a few of that brand go bad and start to fall apart.
