I have a Honeywell VisionPro IAQ thermostat and want to hookup a remote indoor temp sensor. My home has an unused telephone wire already in place that I could use but I am not sure it will work since the manual for the sensor recommends 18 gauge thermostat wire, but doesn't use the word 'required'. I believe phone wire is a higher gauge and wanted to see if it will work before going to the trouble of acquiring one.

Phone wire is just 22 gauge. Where tstat wire is 18 gauge.
That makes phone wire a lot lighter than tstat wire.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the higher gage wire will still work for hooking up the sensor, i.e. will the sensor function properly with the higher gauage wire?

You need to use the 18 ga wire . The 18ga wire is bigger than the 22 ga wire. 22 ga is smaller

Not what I was hoping to hear, but thanks for the information and helping me out.

Some sensors need to be run with shielded cable (to stop interference)

I had the sensor installed using the telephone wire and it is working fine (figured I had nothing to lose). Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the update.
I have an old wall phone jack on our basement wall down here in the family room, and a few times I thought about using that with a remote sensor on my IAQ as well.
But as it set up now, the furnace/t-stat does a good job keeping the temps -/+1 degrees in all rooms.
