I am pulling the last of my hairs out. The black dust from closet hinges have made way onto my cream carpet. What magic potion do I need to make this mess go away. If not successful I will have to go away because my wife is a clean freak. Help me please.
Thanks Rocco

I would try applying rubbing alcohol to a rag and blotting outside to in. If the color transfers, continue until gone. If it doesnt...try the same with wd-40 then go until no transfer and then blot the wd-40 with the alcohol. Do not rub..blot. Always test any diy attempt in a hidden area for ill effects. When in doubt contact a carpet cleaning professional.

While you're at it, clean the hinges too. Keep them lubricated with W-40. Maybe that will help with the metal rubbing on metal and abrading a fine dust. Check to see if doors can also be adjusted to alleviate some of the action in the hinges. If not, replace the hinges. That's easier than having to move out of the house because your wife's a clean freak.
