Has anyone ever done black interior doors with white trim?

Door and trim color are, of course, a matter of personal taste. Most, however, tend to paint interior doors and trim bright white or off white. Whatever color is selected, trim throughout the home is usually painted the same color for the sake of continuity. If you own the home, you must keep in mind that black doors will not appeal to potential buyers.

If wanting to incorporate black in your color scheme, it works better in furniture, accessories, and accents. Darkest colors always work best as accents in a room. Although walls are typically lighter than floors, a new trend is to give walls more color than the typical builder's beige. Accent walls in rich colors are popular, but even they are chosen with a purpose. Colors should be chosen with care and purpose.

I agree with the above but that said - it's only paint and can be changed fairly easily [it will take more work to cover the black] If you diy, paint is probably one of the least expensive things you can do to change the looks of your home.

I had a friend 35 yrs ago that painted his den black [walls and ceiling] and used white on the woodwork but then that was back in the hippie days - can you say phsycodelic :D I'm not even sure I can spell it :p

I saw it in a high end design magazine once and thought the look to be exceptionally classy, modern, and striking. Most of my furniture is black, glass, and maple. High contrast is appealling to me and I don't plan on moving ever again. :-)

I painted my interior doors a very dark chocolate (looks almost black-like a Hershey's Chocolate bar) and they do look cool and modern to me. It does indeed depend on one's taste and style...AND what the others said. ;)

There are green blacks and brown blacks and blue blacks that may work better than just stark black. If working with greens or browns, perhaps one of these might work with your palette. I did see a picture of windows in a contemporary decor in a decorating book this past weekend where the homeowner painted the window frames black but left the trim white.

if a lot of your furniture is black, then that would be a reason to NOT do it. just like when most of the furntiture is stained wood, having painted woodwork is better, so it's not so wood-y. same with hardwood floors - painted woodwork lets the stained wood on the floor be showcased.

too much of anything isn't good. and which would you rather people notice - your furniture or your doors? i vote for furniture.

I registered to reply to this question of black doors. My kitchen is a Newport Beige color on the walls, with white trim, baseboard and crown molding. The cabinetry is white distressed, except for one section which is distressed black, as well as the kitchen island, which is black with a granite top. So I painted the back door black. The interior face of door, black and It looks really good--everyone loves the kitchen, the mix of colors. It doesn't look modern, or retro, it looks very sophisticated and warm. I do have a black table. I say go ahead and paint your doors black if that's what you like--you can always repaint.

I'm seriously considering painting my family room black, with a bold patterned drapery treatment, I don't believe a toile, but some bold pattern, and with cream and gold accents. Haven't decided for sure, but may.

Hope this helps.

I love it!! I don't have a black table - most of my tables are glass, a space creator by illusion, which is a sharp contrast to solid black! We don't have a dining set yet but when we get what we have picked - black square table - we will have fun decorating around it. Our house is on a corner with the afternoon sun beaming in on that particular side so the dark choice in 'doors' and furniture? we might just be able to get away with it.

What I wasn't expecting was comments about coming out of the 70's - eeeeeYUK!
