I had an insulation company come out to house to examine by walls and insulation. They used a really cool tool to determine where I had insulation and where I did not. The first thing they noticed is that my thermostat is on a wall where a heat vent pipe is in the wall nearby. I hope I explained that correctly. As a result, if I set my thermostat to 70 the unit will heat my house but since heat from the vent pipe in the wall is warming the wall it is making my thermostat think it is 70 but is really not. I guess that is why my dig thermometer that I place 15 feet away on a table only reads 62. The guy recommended two things: relocate the thermostat to a better area or buy a thermostat that has a transmitter and you can place that anywhere in the house. Has anyone heard of that kind of thermostat and where I can get one? Does it cost a lot to relocate a thermostat in regards to running new wiring?
I was thinking of possibly raising the thermostat to 78 so the actual room will be around 70. Would anybody know any repurcussions for doing that?
Any advice??? Thanks!

Just move the tstat. Its a DIY job. turn the power off to the furnace. Add on to the wires you have are get all new wire for it . Its just 24V is all mark down the color of the wires and how they go. just put them back as they where and turn the power back on to the furnace.
thermostat that has a transmitter and you can place that anywhere in the house.
Put the $$$ where they count for now.

Option. You can get a thermostat with wired remote sensors. Honeywell and White-Rodgers both make thermostats with remote sensors. You're still going to have to run wire in wall for sensor but you won't have to relocate thermostat. Just wanted to give you other options.
