Purchased a new fan motor for my Ruud heat pump. Old motor has three wires but new motor has five wires. Can I still wire it up using only the same three wires. Or should I take it back and see if they have a motor with three leads like the old one.
Old motor still runs sometimes, when it feels like it for about an hour and then turns off? I was told to always buy a new capasitor when installing a new motor, is that correct? (didn't get one)
Also purchased new contactor relay but have not put it in yet.
Thanks,
Earl

It will be better for you to put the same motor in. Id say take it back and get the right one HP, RPM and it turns the same way. Yes also get a new capacitor with it.

I don't think you'll get a 3 wire moter from RUUD. Rheem uses a universal replacement. There are 2 brown wires for the cap. 1 comman I think yellow. There is a paper in the box. It says what wires to use and what size cap to use to match the old moter size and rpm.
