hello i have 2 copper pipes coming in through the concrete block on the side of my basement. what i want to do is move these up above the ceiling line so i can finish the basement there. i don't want to finish the ceiling around these so can i cut these 2 pipes and solder 45's onto them to reroute them above where my ceiling will be. the way these were routed wasn't very good in my opinion. This is an old heat pump but it still works just for cooliing the house,a furnace does the heating part. let me know your opinions. i do realize once the lines are cut ,there goes my freon. i had it recharged 3 years ago and the repairman then told me it was no good . 3 years later it still works fine. he did give me a quote for a new central air unit though. thanks Randy

You have to have a AC tech come that is EPA . To pull the freon out of the unit .Rework the lines . You cant just solder them you have to use some thing like slifos15 to like weld them . Vacuum it all down then recharge it with freon. I think you will be a lot better off $$$$ to go for a new AC unit with new copper lines . Or moved to what you want.
