Hi everyone, new here. I couldn't exactly find the correct place to post this so I decided this part of the forum would be best.

My bedroom has quite a bit of electronic equipment in it (gaming computer, consoles, tv, etc) and it sits facing the rising sun, as is on the third floor (technically second but that's not important) so it gets on average to be 10 - 15 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. I am unable to convince my roommates to lower the AC so that it cools my room enough to where I want it (about 65 degrees constant) because then everyone else would be too cold.

So I had an idea. I'd get a small portable electric AC unit that doesn't require being put in an open window.

My only problem is this, most of the units I find are evaporative cooling, which is going to release excess moisture into the room's atmosphere and with the sensitive electronics...I really don't want this. I was leaning towards getting one that uses some kind of coolant, or doesn't use water to cool the air, perhaps maybe using electromagnetic technology or something of that sort.

I also was wondering about the condensation. Would a portable ac unit (a non-evaporative one like the one I talked about above) cause undesirable condensation? Condesation, is also something I want to avoid.

I'm looking at a $600 MAXIMUM budget, with something that isn't going to have the electric bill skyrocketing either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Good question. I think your budget is gone. I don't know of any units that recycle the condensation. Additionaly you must have an exhaust.

Well, commercial units do have built in humidifiers, But they also have cond drains.

My guess would be, I don't know. But I'll follow it.

I think you need a standard window air conditioner.

You want a dual-duct portable air conditioner. The dual-duct models take in outside air to cool the compressor / condenser and then exhaust the hot air outside. They have a pump that sprays the condensed water onto the condenser coil and thereby evaporate the condensate out the exhaust duct.

They are not cheap, it will cost you more than a window unit and the presence of the ducts in the room mean that a significant portion of the cooling capacity is used to overcome the heat that passes through the ducts.

You can probably get a 12,000BTU rated unit (it will perform more like an 8,000 to 10,000BTU window unit) for about $400. to $500. The ducts are about five inch in diameter and they come with a window adapter kit.

Home depot and Sams had the small portable AC that
furd is talking about. They are made by Comfort-Aire and they are 12,000 Btu and a small one of 7,500 Btu. You still need two small holes for the air pipe from them to go outside.
