My husband put a mat down for our dog's food bowl thinking he was protecting the new vinyl floor (10m month old). It is now yellow under the mat. Any suggestions?

Get rid of the mat.
What has occured is a basic chemical reaction with the vinyl wearlayer and the rubber back on the mat it turned the vinyl yellow.
Even asphalt can cause this same thing.
Not much can be done.
I am sorry :(
I would research your warranty issues and see if it covers this you may get a warranty complaint generated.
You should have one year from the shop that installed and then the manufacture warranty.
If you got from a box store, complain enough they will replace it.
Drop some emails at the manufactures website may get thier attention.

The yellowing is permanent, as indicated. Lower end products do not have asphalt tracking or yellowing warranties. Unless you purchased a vinyl product that is warranteed against yellowing, it is doubtful that you will get very far with customer complaints. If you are going to complain, do so ASAP. Never place a rug on vinyl that has backing on it, unless it specifically states on the label that it is non-yellowing.

I agree with the above that it is permanent. BUT i highly doubt if the retailer or manufactor will do anything. You can try, but they are going to say that it is either above normal wear and tear or the dog. I do think under a year isnt that long enough for that to start, but with food and water being persent near the mat. It may of caused it to speed up.

Rather than stare at the yellow area, get a new mat? Maybe one that's nicer than the one before, and one that likely won't cause any damage like the last one did.
