I constantly see ads on Craigslist for free used big screens (mostly projection). Usually it is a case where the TV will either not power on, or if it does the picture has issues.

Is this type of repair relatively easy, or would I just be taking on someone else's (very heavy) headache?

I would assume that before offering it the person has inquired and found the repair to be to costly therefore the are offering it free hoping someone will haul it of for them

Imagine it was a free car instead of a free TV. What kind of car do you think you would get for free?

They just want someone else to haul it away for them. If it was worth anything, they would try to make at least a little money off of it.
