Hi all,

I have a 54" Akai rear projection TV that went on the fritz. It was purchased in Oct 2001 so it has had some use. (Model AA64-01395N) (Serial - 39ZRA60860M)

I have audio and you can hear the channels are changing but I have no video. When say I have no video, the screen does not light up at all. I pulled the back off and noticed there are three tubes so I highly doubt all three are bad. Does anyone have any idea where I can start diagnoising this thing? Any help with this would be most appreciated. I miss it already. :(

Akai is the worst brand of TV to get. All their TV's have video problems. Usually the video will come on for a split second then off, or they will not turn on at all.

Akai also has horrible support and parts are hard to get. Usually people throw these TV's out when they brake.

Thank you for your comment but that doesnt fix my immediate problem. The video does not come on at all not even for a second. When I power it up the timer light flashes for a few seconds then goes off. that is the only activity other than sound that it does. I would like to get some advice before throwing away what was a great TV. If you beleive that it is such a terrible TV than what is so terrible? Maybe that would be a good place to start diagnoising.

You really shouldn't be playing around inside a TV unless you know what you are doing. Even with the TV unplugged, you can be seriously shocked. TV's have capacitors, which hold charges even after the TV is unplugged. Touch the wrong place inside there, and you will be shocked.

Call a TV repair place or buy a new TV (unless of course you know how to repair TVs).
