Hi,
I am thinking of replacing the entry door in my home and wondered should I get a screen door as well. Currently, I have a security door (not needed and want to get rid of it) and an older entry door. On warm days, I open the entry door and let fresh air in through the security door. I have 2 small dogs and am wondering if I wll regret not getting a screen door later if when the entry door is open, are the dogs going to run out. Anyone have any advice??
Thanks,
sweetboy

Sounds like you need the extra door. There are some beautiful storms where the bottom pane slides up for fresh air. Too, it would help keep the dogs from dashing off. It also provides a little extra measure of security, if kept locked. You can greet folks at the door with the extra door latched and tell them you are not interested signing a petition or whatever.

I would recommend getting a storm/screen door. Being an owner of 3 dogs myself, I would never leave my doors open without a storm/screen door. My dogs would be running rampant around the neighborhood or trying to kill anyone that came up to the house, and without one you run the risk of someone entering your home without you knowing it.

Thanks for replying guys! My hestitation with getting the screen door was that wouldn't having one take away from the beauty of a nice decorative door?? Do you guys with screen doors have a decorative door behind the screen door??
Thanks,

Get a "Full View" door which will show your entire decorative door.

I second Johnam's suggestion. But be sure you get a full view door that has a small venting window at the top and/or bottom that is maybe 6" wide. Full view doors that will be in the sunlight will create a lot of heat between your door and storm door. The vent will help with that somewhat.

a full view door is the best way to go. you can still see the door, get some fresh air, and keep the dogs from running out. plus sometimes flies could come in through an open door, yuck!
