I just had my siding replaced and they had to remove and reinstall 2 spotlights that are photoelectric and motion-activated. Ever since they put them back up, the photoelectric part seems to work, but instead of being motion activated they stay on constantly.

They were on the house when I bought it and I don't have any instructions as to how they work. Can anyone tell me whether the siding crew rewired the lights incorrectly or if there's some switch I need to change?

Thanks,
beth

I forget the instructions but the lights are working normally. Any time the switch is turned off the back on later they do this. When they unwired them it was the same as turning the switch off. I know it has something to do with how quickly you turn the switch on but do not remember exactly. Maybe you could ask at the hardware store near you?

There could be small switches on the motion sensor head that allow for various lenths on "on-time", and a test mode. See if these have been moved around during handling.

My dang "motion" sensor over the garage is on all night now, dusk to dawn. Haven't figured that one out yet, either...

Well, I checked the switches and it's set to stay on for 5 minutes after turning on, so I think it's ok. I'll see if Home Depot has any ideas, but if you figure out how to fix your garage light, let me know!

Thanks to all,
beth

Turn off the power to this lamp, hopefully there is a switch for it but if necessary trip the circuit breaker. Wait a minimum of five minutes, ten will erase any doubt. Turn the power back on. The lamp will most likely come on and stay on for the preset (five minute) time and then go off. It will then work as it did before, i.e. off during daylight hours and come on when it senses motion during dark hours. It will remain on for the set time period and then go off assuming there has been no motion to cause it to reactivate the cycle. If it doesn't work properly then the motion sensing or timing circuitry is bad and you will have to replace the lamp.

If this causes the lamp to operate normally then if for some reason you want it to be always on simply turn off the switch for about a second and then turn it on again. This action will bypass the motion sensing and timing circuits. To return to normal operation then follow the above instructions about turning it off for an extended (five to ten minute) period.
