Hi All,
I bought a kohler cast-iron,white enamel tub from HD and left it outside under a covered porch since last fall. Apparently, some leaves blew under my tarp and sat on the tub surface where they proceeded to rot and leave bad brown stains. We hauled it in today to install it. I told my wife, no problem about those stains, easy to get out. I sprayed simple green, everything on the smooth surface came off easy.... BUT... there are these stupid patches of anti-slip rough (like sandpaper) strips on the bottom part of the tub, where I cannot remove the stains. I tried soft-scrub, which lightened the stains, but it is still not up to par. I tried a little 400 grit sand paper which seemed to work but it would take me forever and I don't want to screw up the glossy surface between the 2"/4" strips of rough surface. Anyone have any ideas for me??

hmm this is a new one never heard of this type of situation. I would say that if you filled the tub up with hot water just enough to cover the bottom areas and possibly a clr type product may work. This almost sounds like a mineral issue as the leaves broke down. I would use the clr light at first and let it soak 5 -10 mins then scrub with a scrubbie and rinse well. Use gloves with clr and well ventalited area. As with any diy attempt test in a small area first.

Soaking with bleach/water solution may lift the tannin stains. There are also tannin stain removers available.
