Hello all. I installed a dimmer switch about two months ago and it just stopped working. The light stayed on, but you weren't able to dim or turn the light off. I thought maybe the dimmer switch was broken so I bought a new one. I installed it about an hour ago and it's doing the same thing. It's a single pole and the wiring looks pretty straight forward (two black wires and a ground). Any ideas on what is going on and how to fix it?

How much wattage is on the dimmer? I've heard of this happening to overloaded dimmers that over heat and basically burn up.I've also heard of older dimmers doing this when they "wore out" but this doesn't sound like your situation.

it only has about 200 watts on it and it doesn't feel hot to the touch.
