I recently bought a new undercabinet lcd tv for our kitchen. This tv is a little pickier on the signal strength than the previous one.

Here is what we have..
Main signal line goes into a 2 way splitter outside.. 1 line goes directly towards our internet. Other line goes to a 3 way splitter... 1 of those lines goes into the living room.. 1 to the basement tv and the 3rd runs around the house to yet another splitter.. 1 to the bedroom.. the other is an extra line we have running to a booster for the kitchen. Not sure if the booster works or not as it was here when we bought the house. Bedroom tv seems to be fine.

I know this is a lot of splitters and you lose strength the more you have.. Does anyone have any suggestions? The tv in the kitchen has problems getting some of the channels due to lack of signal strength.

Another note.. the cable for the kitchen goes downstairs and then works its way back up. Does that extra 20 ft make a big difference. I don't really want to start moving wires/drilling holes until I have a few ideas.

Several things to consider here.

1. The quality of the splitters. If the splitters were provided by the cable company, they should be ok. If you bought cheap splitters at a store, that could be part of the problem.

2. 3-way splitter. 3-way splitters will normally have 1 output that has a lower signal loss than the other two. Usuall two outputs will be -7 and the 3rd will be -3.5. You should probably connect the line that has another splitter and heads towards the kitchen to the output with the lower signal loss.

3. The quality of the cables. RG6 coaxial cable is better than RG59. RG59 should not be used for long distances.

4. The "booster" should not be installed that far down the line. It is impossible to boost a bad signal. You need to have the "booster" at the beginning of the line where the signal is still good. You should probably put it right after the first splitter, on the line that goes towards the TVs. Sometimes boosting the line to the cable modem can cause problems. I have a motorola signal amplifier that works really well. Not sure what kind you have, but it could be causing problems. You might want to try not using it to see if you get a better signal. I have also heard of signals being over-amplified and causing problems.

The extra 20ft shouldn't be a problem if you are using RG6.

Thanks for the info.
The 2way & 3way splitters are from the cable company. The line going to the kitchen is on the leg with the lowest loss.

The 3rd 2way splitter I assuming is a cheap one. It is painted over as well as the coxial cables so I cannot read what kind they are. Anyone know where I can get a good splitter without using the cable company?

The final coxial cable to the kitchen is RG6.

Also... These splitters are ALL on the outside of the house. Otherwise I thought about a cable box with a booster ??

I pay $3/month for cable insurance. If ANY RG6 cabling, splitters, outlets, bad signal, etc go bad, they will come out and replace everything at no additional charge.

Have you tried calling the cable company? I had to do this once, and they found a weak cable buried from the pole to the disto box in my back yard.

Just to let you all know... I fixed the problem today. I did trial & error and found out that the last cable was bad. It was a cheap RG6 cable put in by previous owners(Looks like the Magnavox ones??).

I had an extra RG6 from the cable company from an old apartment and put it in. Works Great! Thanks for all the suggestions.
