I am having a problem with a new bath exhaust fan installation. The plan is to run the fan and the bath light off the same switch - both operate at the same time, that is switch on and both light and fan come on, switch off and both light and fan turn off - basic stuff.
Problem: after hooked up the on position results in light on, fan off. the off switch position results in fan on and light off. I tried all variations in wire hookups but the same result. What can anyone suggest on this one? Thx.

ricoman, it is a good idea to read a good book on residential wiring before you do any actual work in your home.
What kind of switch did you use? How many of what color wires do you have run from the fan to the light? How are they hooked up?

Like Jwhite, you probably hooked the wires to a 3 way switch. Does the switch have the words "on" and "off" printed on it? If not, that's what you did. Give us the wire color and position you installed them on the switch, and what the switch looks like (terminal locations).
