Hello. My husband and I purchased a very dated 1970's center hall colonial a year ago. I have a very small powder room in which I am in need of a towel bar and a shelf. The sconces are a burnished brass, and they're new so I don't want to replace them. The faucet is relatively new, and it is polished brass and chrome. I know that replacing the faucet with a a burnished brass fixture would be the best, but my husband is not going to be up for the job. As such, should I choose chrome / polished brass towel bars and shelves to match my faucet, or chose burnished brass to match the sconces? Thanks for your input!

It's a matter of personal taste. Many recommend that all the metal fixtures match, but no decorating rules are etched in granite.

It is a matter of personal taste and "mixing" is actually a very popular thing to do these days. I would go with the one I liked best and that sounds like it's the burnished brass. If you buy the brass/chrome one just because it matches the faucet, you'll always regret it and eventually replace it for the one you really wanted, and maybe one day down the road, you can also replace the faucet, and you'll already have the towel bars that you really wanted :)

you don't have to limit your choices to either matching the faucet or the light fixture. the shelf could be wooden, to match or accent the cabinetry. and the towel bar could be a hook of some sort instead. think outside the box.
in a half bath, what do you need the shelf for anyway? is it a pedestal sink?
