So here's the scoop, I have nasty 8 foot T12 buzzing florescent lamps in my Kitchen. The buzz has got to go.
I understand the best way to fix this is to convert over to electronic balasts. I went to home depot and they only had them in the 4 foot version. Is there a such thing as an 8 foot balast/lighht fixture that is electronic? If not, how hard is it to put two 4 foot versions in my Kitchen ceiling? Would it be too much light considering I will then have 6 fixtures and 12 bulbs in just a kitchen?

Redo your lighting scheme.
Yes they sell T-8 fixtures, These are in 1-2-4 lamp configs. 4' or 8' models.
4-lamp 8' $50/ lamps extra. These are electronics and the new wave.

they do sell electronic ballasts for what you seek but at half the cost (approx) of what lee gave you for an entire fixture, I would opt for the all new fixture.
If you do decide on just ballast replacement, head to an electrical supply house. They have or can get what you need. The homeowner stores do generally lack a good selection. Since there are hundreds of ballasts available, it is understandable.

Sometimes the acuoustics in the room are such that you need to buy the low noise ballasts.

So let me get this straight, there are 8 foot fixtures, and 8 foot lamps that are electronic? None of which is available at home depot.
This is for use in a recessed lighting setup, if it makes a difference.
Where should I go?

Thanks, sorry, didn't see that.
I can't find anything on google either so I Figured they didn't exist. I'll try graingers or something.

www.grainger.com
their part number: 3V600. Manuf: Advance part #REL-2P60-S. their price :(hold on to your britches) $58.75 WOW! Grainger cat 397 page number:693
That drives 2 8 foot T-12 lamps and uses 120 volts. If you desire anything different, it will, of course, be a different part number.
I don't recall ever paying that much for a similar ballast. I would definately look at any local electrical supply houses near you.

Don't they have 8 foot lamps that are not T12/smaller (t8) and the likes?
The T12 lights are generic and will work with either magenetic or electric, right?

yes and you can convert to T-8 if you want.
Just an FYI. the 12, 8, 5, and 4 are the diameter of the lamps. They refer to how many eighths of an inch they are so a T-12 is 1 1/2 inches diameter, a T-8 is 1 inch diameter and so on.
The end terminals (for a typical lamp) are the same. There are a few other types (slimline- single pin each end, HO and VHO- 2 small contacts surrounded by a plastic oval)
and yes, you can use either a magnetic or electronic with the lamps. the different ballast types do not require different lamps.
