We live in a small, 13' wide row house in a city. Our garden is also 13' feet wide and is fenced in with a stockade fence. Currently, the back of the fence is two large doors that open out into the lot behind our house (I believe the previous owners would park a car in the yard). The gate is basically stockade panels mounted on a steel frame. We use a padlock to secure them together in the center, however it is not an ideal situation to have to open up the entire back yard if we want to exit the property that way.

Ideally, we'd like to replace the back wall with a stockade panel, and traditional gate, but are not sure how to do it - do we buy pre-fab 8'x6' panels and cut one down to jury rig into a gate? Do we build our own fence and gate from scratch?

Since we live in a very urban area, security is a big concern of ours, as is making sure our dog cannot get out of the yard. We would also like to be able to lock the gate while being able to get in and out from either side of the fence.

Any thoughts, advice, and suggestions are appreciated!
