I'm going to hang a swing from a tree branch and was wondering what type rope would be best.

BTW: Was wondering where you got the swing from or is this just a "basic" question?
Also, be sure you know the type of tree you have as it will help on how stable the tree branch will be and also to check the diameter of the branch and do accordingly to the article. This just makes the swing more safe for a child. Not doing so can cause a lot of injuries.

We used chains from the hardware store -- worked great, and while they did scar the branch a bit (not much, esp if you rubberize that part) we didn't have to worry about rot or fraying

I have a polypropylene rope swing hanging from a limb in my backyard that I built for my grandkids about 5 years ago. They still use it. The rope is about 3/4 inch -- real heavy. I wanted something that would last, and be safe. To secure it to the limb I tied a loop in one end of the rope, pulled the loop over the limb with a pull string, then fished the other end of the rope through the loop and pulled it tight up against the limb.
