Doors and Windows - Pella sash

Can someone tell me how to remove the top sash in a Pella double hung window? The window is cracked and I have a replacement sash.Someone told me I will need a special tool.Is that true?

I assume that you got the replacement sash from Pella. They should supply you instructions on how to replace it.

First you will need to tip the front sash in. Raise the window about 8 inches, then follow these instructions:

You push the jamb packs in slightly and pull the top of the sash toward you. (push left side left, and pull sash toward you on the left, then push right side right and pull the sash toward you). This will tip the top of the sash in. Let it fold all the way upside down.

The lower the top sash until it is about 2" above the lower sash. Repeat the above directions. Once you have it tipped down, you should be able to lift the sash out of it's pivot shoes.
