i posted a question about a problem with my tv in a thread that was 4 years old, i didn't see the date at the top of the thread. hotinOKC told me that it is most probably my convergence ic amp that needs replacing. what does this look like and where can i get one? i know how to solder really well and if i can get my hands on a new part i could most likely do this myself. i won't feel as bad if i mess something up because the tv was given to my by a friend, not purchased.

Ported,
See if you can get a electrical schematic from the manufacturer or local repair shop. These IC (amps) are small black little boxes (mine were about 2"x3") with a lot of solder joints at the bottom. Look towards the lower right hand side of the whole unit. You will probably see some heat fins surrounding it. You will have to desolder them, and then apply new heat paste to the new parts, and solder them back in.

My original IC's were meant for 110V and the new ones are 120V to accomodate the extra voltage.

Here's a great site for parts.
