What do I need to do to the hole on the bed frame in order to be able to screw the post into it? Does it need to be filled with something and redrilled? You cannot drill the hole anywhere else--it has to be in this exact spot. Thanks for any help you could give me with this problem.

Welcome to the forums
If you can't move the screw, would a bolt work?
Sometimes fillers will work but I've had better luck with slivers of wood [sometimes use tooth picks] packed in the hole and then put in the screw.

I use the toothpick method Mark describes as well. If that doesn't work, fill the hole by gluing a dowel into the hole and drilling the new hole into that. You'll sometimes have to drill the existing hole out a little to get a dowel to fit tightly.

I have some dowels left over from the new bed that was set up on hand right now unlike toothpicks.

used the toothpick method and it worked perfectly--I have a nice tightly secured bed post now.
