We have a 33 year old Amana refrigerator that the freezer has only been getting down to about 10 degrees even on the highest setting. It usually holds at that temperature until after it has turned off for a short period. Then it seems like it is not coming back on soon enough because the temperature in the freezer usually goes up to 40 degrees (things are still frozen tho) before it starts running again. Does this sound like it's finally time to pitch it and buy a new one, or something we should try to have repaired? I know absolutely nothing about refrigerators so any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Whether your fridge is worth fixing would depend on exactly what is wrong.
Without looking at it diagnosing the problem would not be possible.
Your problem could range from needing a new thermostat which might be worth replacing to a comressor or refrigerant leak which would not.
