I have a swinging door separating the kitchen from the dining room. The door swings back and forth, it does not open and shut. Recently the "swinging" capability no longer works. How can I fix it so it will return to a swinging door?

The hinges likely need lubrication, or they may need to be replaced.

where are the hinges on a sliding door? On the top and botto, of the door? How do you access the hinges?

Usually, on a swinging door there is a mount on the top and the bottom. You'll see a plate in the floor and/or the top of the jamb with a plate, usually held in with 4 screws. You'll want to take the door off first, and then fiddle with the hinge. It is a pretty straight forward repair. If you need more help post some pictures. :)

First you said swinging then you said sliding????? On a swinging door, like a kitchen/DR door, the top is usually just a pivot. The bottom has the spring loaded hinge. It is usually in a cutout at the corner, which should have removable plates to allow access to the mechanism.
