I have a Trane XE-70 with electronic ignition.
The ignitor comes on / ignites burners for about two or three seconds / then goes off. Ignighter comes right back on, waits for burners to ignight again. This will happen two - five times before the burners will stay on to do the full cycle of heating up heat exchanger and blower cycles. When they finally stay on, the furnace will run for less than a full minute / then cuts off.
I have a ranch home of 2,000 sq ft/with full basement.
I bought house five years ago.
Is this something I can troublesoot, or do I have to call repairman?

Look for the flame sensor - a small metal rod that should be in front of one of the burner tubes - in the path of the flame. Usually has one wire attached and held in place by one screw. Remove it and using very fine steel wool (XXXX) give it a few strokes from bottom to top. You don't want to wear it down, just clean the surface a bit. Reinstall and hopefully problem solved.

This rod would likely be on the opposite end of the burner rack from the ignitor, have a single wire, & be partially insulated with porcelain. Scotch Brite also works well for cleaning. As Goldstar said, you don't want to wear away the metal or even scratch it, just clean.
