I have an older Carrier gas furnace. Two months ago the fan would shut off after the burner shut down, but would restart within a few seconds, run 10 seconds, then shut off. Occasionally it would restart twice. Last week the fan kept running, even when I turned the whole system to OFF instead of HEAT at the thermostat. I had a 3 year old programmable thermostat that I replaced, thinking it might be the problem. It worked like a charm - for a day or two. Then it started the fan coming back on problem, and today the fan is running constantly again. I changed the furnace filter and also replaced the batteries in the new thermostat. What else could I try before calling a repairman?
