Hi there,

In the last phase of finishing my basement, and the exisitng stairs were framed right up against the 2x4's (squeezing in the drywall was tight) so I cant slip a skirt board in the easy way... I guess I need to cut the skirt to match the steps.. Are there any handy dandy DIY tricks, or is it as straightfoward as it appears..

Thanks in advance.

Can you get a piece of cardboard or better yet red floor underlayment between the stairs and sheetrock? If so, slip it in, tape it to the wall, trace it out, pull it, cut the 1x12, then set it on top of the steps. If I were doing it, I would remove all the treads and risers and start over again, but that's not the easy way.
