I have installed undercounter halogen lights that I have plugged into an outet above my cabinets and they are controlled by a small touchpad that turns them on/off and they have three brightness levels. The outlet is switched on one side to a fluorescent light that is over the sink, with the other side being unswitched and hooked up to the halogen lights. My problem is that when I switch the fluorescent light on, the halogen lights come on to the first brightness level. I am guessing there is some draw that triggers this, but need to know how to troubleshoot this and eliminate it. Thanks for any help.

Are you sure only 1 side is switched? You must break off the tab on the rec.Hot side.

Yes, the tabs between the sides on the receptacle have been cut.

I have now attempted to plug the halogens into an outlet that runs to a second breaker panel with the same outcome. I do have one of the wires for the halogens running on top of the cabinets above the fluorscent and wonder if that might have something to do with it. Considering that none of the wires are close together and a second light kit across the room does not have this problem, might I consider a defective light kit?

Interesting... the hot is switched..not the neutral right (had to ask)?

May be the fixture. Is the unaffected fixture on the same ckt as the sink light? Try a new one. Others may have a better idea.

Somewhat figured out......I unplugged the last halogen light (the wire that runs across the top of the fluorscent (on top of the cabinet)) so the wire and transformer are not above the fluorscent. Doing this, the problem goes away. So it appears that something is transmitted by the fluorscent when it is switched on. I have no other way to run the wire for that last light, so would there be a way to shield the wire from the light?
