I have a GE TFX27FLL (1990 model year) side-by-side refrigerator. The ice and water dispenser are in the door. I am attempting to remove the ice/water dispensor trim piece (pc #11) from the front of the freezer door so I can fully inspect and determine precisely what parts are needed to fix my ice dispensor. From the back of the door it appears the plastic plunger has broken and thus no longer engages the limit switch. I am interested in seeing what else I might need before placing an order for parts. The electronic control panel and the freezer door handle have been removed. I have used a taped putty knife blade to pry the trim away from the door. There are seven plastic pins on the trim (3 on each side and one on the bottom) which go into nylon inserts in the door. The trim seems to pull away nicely with the putty knife. However, I do not seem to be able to pry the top center section of the trim away from the door. My problem is that in addition to the seven pins there are two pins shaped like crosses or stars that are spaced about four inches apart in the top of the trim (the section above the electronic control panel). These two pins seem to be held by some means other than simple friction. How do I disengage these two plastic pins? I do not see any fasteners or anything else in or around these pins that would lead me to believe they restrict or hold the pins in place. I really do not want to damage the trim. Any guidance and instruction in addressing these two pins, their disengagement and final removal of this trim is appreciated. Thank You.
