I'm replacing a Honeywell 8600M with s8610u. Trouble is, after I put in the new unit, I don't get any spark at all. I see in the manual that for some models, it says to remove the jumper quick connect and cut the jumper wire. Is that something I need to do? I can't figure out why it's not working.
My 8600M is having problems. The thermostat will turn the unit on. The blower will go on as well. To get a spark, I have to sometimes (daily) go to the furnace and hit the side of the furnace to get a spark. Any thought on what could be causing that? I may not need to replace the control after all.

Did you check to see if you are getting power to the modular from the safety switches closed?

I'm not sure I understand. I can swap out the 8600M with the 8610 and get no power. I can sawp them out again and get a spark. Is there a switch or something on the module I need to adjust?
Thanks.

Parts changing is not troubleshooting. In order to troubleshoot, you will need to understand the flow of power from the disconnect switch to the gas valve. Unless you plan to replace everything, it will be better to trace the flow of current to where it is interrupted. It may be a pressure switch, it may be just a bad connection but with a voltmeter you can surely find the problem. I would say not to spend too much time rewiring things to work with a new ignition control because it doesn't sound like the source of your problem.

I am having a nearly identical problem
can someone answer the OPs original question.
The s8610u when plugged in does not light up or activate, seems to have no power.
i plug in my old s8600m in and it works like a charm (defective charm). do i need to unplug the jumper? or change a setting?

Your new one probably requires you hook up wires differently, as they are 2 different models. When I have done this, they include a booklet that shows what changes need to be made. Do you have such a booklet? Also, it may need to be screwed to the furnace to work properly.

i do have the booklet and have screwed the unit down. I followed the directions to a T.
LEDs won't light up and no Spark
any ideas?

I got the new module to work by changing a lead to another port.
the furnace will light burn until the fan kicks on heat for 60 seconds then it starts cycling
flame on 25 seconds flame off 5 second restart and 25 seconds flame over and over.
I cannot imagine this in normal.
troubleshooting guide says that it could be a bad ground or ignition cable.
could that have been my problem all along?
I thought my fan limit control was bad too, but that part will not be here until friday.
thoughts?

Not sure if this will help, but I just installed an S8610U in my Tempstar furnace tonight and at first, I was unable to get the control to do anything... no LEDs or spark. Then I found this forum and a post by Luap (Furnace burners not firing.. pilot goes out quickly) where he mentioned he solved his problem by moving the 24V power connector to the TH-W connector. I tried it and mine is now working perfectly (nice to have a warm house again). Thanks Luap!
Hope that helps...

It sounds like you have a bad ground. Take an ohmmeter and measure from the burner to to what is known to be a good ground, like a copper water pipe. You should read less than .5 ohms. If you read .5 ohms or more then connect a wire from the burner to the water pipe directly. Now measure from the ground terminal on the ignition module to the water pipe with the ohmmeter. You should read close to 0. If you still read high resistance (ohms) check the ground from the ground terminal on the ignition control to the burner of the furnace, correct if needed, .....try to fire.
