I've run into a slight problem with my new pedestal sink, it's an American Standard Williamsburg that mounts to the wall with a bracket and lag screws. The problem is, the vent pipe for the sink and toilet run right up the wall and I can't put in the support between the two studs because the vent pipe is in the way. However, I can still use the lag screw holes OK.
I was going to buy a Kohler sink that was only supported by the lag screws. It would seem that I could just use the lag screws as support along with the pedestal itself, like many other pedestals.
Does this would right? I'm wondering if they give you the bracket as an option?

Bottom line, the lag screws must be installed into a solid surface. You may find that you can shift the bracket either right or left enough to allow you to install the lags into a stud. The vent pipe should be inside the wall, is that correct?

If this is a pedestal sink, the pedestal hold all the weight, and the bolts keep it from pulling away from the wall. You could eliminate the blocking and just use toggle bolts. A wall hung sink must have blocking for a proper bracket.

Ask my cousin about her pedestal sink held in by toggles when her young boy pulled up his stool to wash his hands, pulled on the edge of the sink to balance himself and almost wound up with a lap full of sink. I never trust the toggles after that. Even if it requires tearing out the wall directly behind where the sink will go, and install a block, repairing the wall and painting, or retiling.
