We bought a ceiling fan light kit to install as a light fixture in our basement, where there is not a ceiling fan. However the instructions state- Do not intall as a light fixture. WHY NOT?
Thank you so much for any help!

The first thing that comes to mind is that it is heavy and vibrates.
A ceiling fan requires a different electrical box with good support up in the ceiling.

One reason you can not do it is that the light assembly will only be approved when installed on a fan.
A possible consequence is that there is not a proper mounting kit with it to attach to a junction box, or that the light fixture could get too hot to be on a box or the bulbs too close to the ceiling or .............................
If it starts a fire you may not be insured.
