We are in a 1997 Clayton Lamesa mobile and having trouble locating the water heater. On some mobile homes, access is on the outside, but this doesn't seem to have one. Can't find much information on it from the manufacturer. This is a rent-to-own unit in a mobile home park and is laid out nice on the inside. Any help is greatly appreciated.

look for access holes (w/cover installed) in closets and such. Under kitchen cabinets is a possibility.
bathroom cabinets sometimes (sometimes they use a very short one.)
even seen them in hall closets before.
If you have an imagination, you can usually see areas of the home that don;t seem to line up the way they should. Where there is a very thick wall or a boxed in area that doesn't seem to belong often contain the elusive mobile home water heater.
There was one gal on here that finally found hers. Whoever remodeled the place built over the access.

Gas water heaters are typically required to have exterior access panel or door and proper ventilation.
Interior electric water heaters may be covered by a metal panel with coin locks. Interior access to gas water heaters would have louvers in this panel. Panels are usually located in the hall.
Sometimes electric water heaters are located in closets. Some older models have small water heaters located in kitchen cabinets. Sometimes water heater is located behind paneling with access cut out and panel held with screws. This panel may be in hall, inside closet, or in bedroom.
Landlord should know where the water heater is located if there has ever been any problems that he had to fix. If you have no luck with landlord or your detective work, you may want to contact Clayton direct at Call: 865-380-3000 in Tennessee (www.clayton.net).

Look in the master closet, near the breaker box. It should be behind a piece of drywall held in place with either screws or wing nuts.

In my MH the 40 gallon electric heater is in the master BR closet. same place as the electric panel box. It is separated by blueboard, strapped to the walls, and boxed in with a paneled access door.

hi, if you can look under home it's usually located above wherever the water main enters the home, there's most likely an access panel inside one of the closets. hope this helps oh yea! look for a small prox 1'' pipe going down through floor and just ends a couple of inches below the bottom of the home. this is the w/h pressure relief valve drain, find it and youv'e struck gold :)

Yes..Mine is in the master bedroom closet...I learned the hard way about this hot water heater...it had a hole in the house and I had water going all over inside the closet with the nasty looking blue stuff all over my closet...I had a big job with that closet. My son was able to repair the hose...thank God..

you have a fairly new unit (being a 97) so you probably only need to look for the access panel. Seems that the last Clayton I was in the water heater was in a floor to ceiling boxed in area between the washing machine dryer area and the kitchen it had some decorative fasteners strategically placed (yup one in each corner) on a panel that matched the wall almost perfectly (how do they do that?). Probably in different places on a lot of floorplans though. Have not seen the outside access on any of the newer ones, although some manufacturers may still be doing that.
