Thanks to everyone for all the great help to date.
We just returned home after a week and 'surprise' the elves didn't finish my repair projects!
There may not be a definitive answer to this but any educated guesses appreciated.
A friend gave me a wall mounted natural gas heater for my garage. It hasn't been used for a couple years but appears in good shape. It has a fan, etc.
It 'probably' works fine but I'd like to try it out before spending the big dollars for a plumber (or is it gas fitter?) to come out and hook it up to the gas. If it doesn't work, he rightly still deserves a fee for coming out.
My question: I'm thinking of puting a plug on the electrical wire...and buy a thermstat for the unit (there's also a 18/2 wire sticking out). If I plug in the unit and hook up a thermostat, will the unit come on even though there is no gas hooked up? Does the unit need a gas feed to test the electrics, thermostat and so on? I 'think' years ago our furnace once was running even though the burner wasn't working. Is it the same with one of these wall units... will it turn on and just keep running with unheated air blowing out?
thanks
