I just dragged my old receiver out of the closet: a Nakamichi TA-2A. It was a solid performer then and when it went into the closet 5 years ago all that was wrong was a static sound when the volume knob was adjusted - correct me if I am wrong- I assume as cleaning job only.

Thing is, I don't know how to properly clean the inside of any electronic appliance but for the dust wand. I know there are sprays out there to clean out gunk from contacts/switches, but don't know which and the proper usage. Once I used a spray on another old receiver and shorted the thing out. So I request and would be grateful for some guidance here.

Thanks!

The best way to clean out an old receiver is compressed air. Give a good blow.
The volume control can be gien a very light spray of WD40. Don't blast it it just a quick squirt to get a drop or two inside. DO NOT use it on the power switch.
