I am in the process of purchasing a new gas furnace. what is mean't by the term balancing the gas line?

Where have you read about "balancing gas line"? It could mean a numbers of things.

Id go for What the btu of the unit is. How far the pipe run to the meter is and how many L's will be in it. As to what size pipe you have to run to it.
