1994 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 6 cylinder truck. Needs fuel pump. I want to put an inline pump in. What pressure do I need in a pump to do this??

It varies between 35-70 psi. Your chiltons manual should state this pressure.

Also, is this fuel injected or throttle body injected? The PSI's differ. If throttle injected, probably around 15 psi.

Mark,

its throttle body injected. I hooked up an old carb inline pump I had, it wont run right. it states from 7-14 lbs. would it flood out if I got too many psi's??

Yes, too much fuel and not enough air and spark to ignite it will cause "flooding".

first off you will have to remove the tank and pull the bad fuel pump out and replace with just a piece of hose and a strainer, no fuel pump is going to be able to pull fuel through a bad fuel pump so if you think you are avoiding dropping the tank by installing an inline your not so may just want to fix it right to begin with.
if you had other reasons for putting on an inline, any pump that puts out 20- 25 psi should be adequete for a throttle body injected engine while the specs is 9-13 psi regulated pressure the excess will get returned to the tank.

this is what I had in mind cuz the tank top is rusted.
The pump I have is just a 7-14 lbs psi. It pulled gas thru the old pump, just not enought to keep it running when I would throttle the truck.
if I can do this with a lower pressure pump why couldnt I put a higher psi pump in to get it to work ?/

The higher pressure pump would have the same problem. The difference between the two pumps has more to do with their respective output. The intake restriction that's causing the problem would still be there.

Larger pumps that have a larger volume of output may offset the restriction somewhat, but the best remedy is that which has been suggested - replacing the old pump in its present location.

Hope this helps,

Bob
