Gas and Oil Home Heating Furnaces - HSI Glows - No Gas Goodman GMP100-5

I have a Goodman GMP100-5 gas furnace. Blower comes on and a few minutes the HSI plug starts glowing but no gas comes out to light. Cycles a few more times before it shuts down. What should I check next?

ok, so the combustion blower comes on, shortly after the igniter starts to glow. and then you will hear a faint click at the gas valve and the gas will be brought to the burners. check the obvious first, the gas **** is open, and the gas knob on the valve is in the ON position. then listen for the click after the igniter is glowing, if you hear a faint click from the valve then the valve is opening. sometimes the igniter is not set properly to hit the gas from the burner and ignite.

I will try again to see if I hear the faint click of the gas valve. The HSI glow ignitor is fixed and did not move. I did shut down completely turning electrical off, turned gas valve to off position, and kept off for about 5 minutes and then powered up, turned gas valve to on position, then turned on thermostat. Same thing happened. Lots of glowing ignitor but no flame. Did not smell any gas even after it cycled a few times before it shut down. Will try again when I get home to see if gas valve "clicks" on

I tried again tonight. Turned on furnace, blower started and a short while later the igniter started glowing very brightly. There was no "clicking" from the gas valve turning on. Waited another cycle and still no clicking. No smell of any gas. Any ideas?

According to the manual for my Janitrol /Goodman the HSI should be on for 17 seconds before the gas valve opens. Since it seems to be working up to the point of the gas valve, I would be looking to see if the valve was getting a signal from the circuit board. If so, I would suspect the gas valve, If not, then I would consider the circuit board. The manual does not give any test procedures so it is up to you when to call in a pro.

Thanks a lot for your help. Although I would like to spend more time with it, it looks like it would be in my best interest to now call in a pro. Simple part replacements are OK with me, gas valves/lines are for experts (or at least people that know a lot more than me!
