I had an odd situation this week. I rented a dvd from Blockbuster and it wouldn't play in my Panasonic player/recorder, which is fairly new and has given me no problems before. The "bonus" disc played fine but the movie disc just said "reading" and the menu would not come up. I took it back to BB and it played fine on their machine. I got a different disc (same movie) and when I got home it did the same thing! Both discs looked in perfect condition and both played on the BB player but not mine. What's up w/that?

Thanks,
Harold

DVD's have a byte of information on them called Regional Codes, most likely your DVD player did not have regional code software installed on it, so it would not play. You can look on the back of DVD's and you will see a globe picture with a number in it, United States regional code is 1. Make sure your player and all DVD's you get say 1. If it has a different #, then they won't play.

Thanks Mark. I don't have the dvd anymore but this was an American movie, my dvd player is a Panasonic, and the disc played on 2 other dvd players. Still seems very odd.

I would say it was a fluke. It has happened to me before. I don't think you have anything to worry about with your DVD player.
