I have a flourescent light on one switch in my basement and I want to add a couple of lights down there (all controlled by the same switch).

Is it as simple as cutting the power feed to the existing light, installing a junction box and then running three new wires (one to each light)?

You can see a crude diagram of the before and after here:

Or do I need to I need to do something else?

Thank you,
Jay

Didn't look at your diagram... but, in essence, yes - it's as simple as that - though if you're adding two lights, it means running two new wires from the old light fixture. However - it is also a process that will require a permit be taken out with your local building dept.

Thanks for the reply.
I also had no idea I had to pull a permit to add a couple of lights in an open ceiling basement.

No it is not that simple. If you want it controlled by the switch then you can do it by connecting your new cable in the existing light fixture junction box. Connect the new cable to the same two wires as the exisitng fixture.
Any other option depends on how the circuit is wired. It could be possilbe to tap into the line between the switch and the existing fixture IF you do NOT have a switch loop.

Good point... there are different ways it could be wired.... causing a few potential issues... my mistake in oversimplifying it.
