Hi All!

I am finishing my basement and adding a new shower. I've done some searching but haven't found an answer to this question.

When it comes to installing the valve (single handle Delta Monitor series) how do I go about it? The valve has threaded ends. If I sweat a threaded connection to 1/2" pipe and attach to the valve, then sweat the other end to the supply line, what if there is a leak in the threaded connection (I DO plan to use teflon tape)? Do I have to cut it out and start all over again (which now means I would need a coupling to re-connect the cut pipes) or would a compression fitting in between the supply and the threaded connection work?

That way I could just loosen the compression fitting, tighen up the threaded connection and then re-tighten the compression fitting.

Thanks for your help!
Tom

Check your local codes. Usually --- Compression fittings are not allowed within walls. However, unions are not mentioned as being not allowed. Code talk as meaning unions can be used in walls, with water.

Use a union... or if you feel confident, just solder pipe in place and then see if it leaks.

Good luck with your project.
