I know a great deal of design has to do with personal preference, but I'm looking for advice or general rules for cabinet color vs floor color. We are planning to remodel kitchen.

Pricing wise, our primary option for cabinets is American Woodmark Maple Spice. This color is lighter which somewhat appeals to us, but it can also appear pinkish in color, something we do not like. I have provided a link below:

We'd like to go with wood flooring but cannot seem to find a color to compliment or appropriately contrast with the cabinets. Natural seems too light & medium (gunstock) looks ok but doesn't jump out at us as great. Again, we want to avoid the cabinets appearing "pink" in color. Seeking advice, general rules, etc. I know this would also depend on countertop, tile backsplash color, paint color, etc. We will probably keep our white appliances, so this probably effects everything as well.

So many variables......Thanks in advance. If it matters the rest or our house has darker trim/doors.

in the picture shown, see how the base & crown mouldings are a darker color? if you want wood floors, i'd go with flooring that darker color.

but that's a lot of stained wood in one room. i would actually go with tile floors with stained cabinets, but that's my preference.

I think ceramic tile floors are the way to go. Something like a slate tile, or travertine, etc... would look great with that type/color of cabinets. I personally like that shade(but not if it had a pink tone) and that is the color I plan to go someday when I get the finances to remodel the kitchen.

It can be really hard to select wood tones that go together. It can be done successfully. My best advice is to choose wood colors that are either an exact match, or completely different. So, with your light maple, you might consider going with a dark, espresso colored floor.

Also, if your cabinets are a very solid, light maple color, you could go with a floor that has a lot of grain (but within that graining, there are colors that match the cabinets, so it all ties together).

As far as your other colors and finishes, you need to first determine your style. The look of those cabinets is somewhat traditional. If you like a tile floor, you could do something that looks like a natural stone or travertine. You could then do your backsplash in a tumbled marble, and maybe even do a pattern using a few different colors.

I would suggest that you think about all these factors together before making purchases. Get a plan of what you want for the floor, backsplash, countertop, paint colors, etc. before you start buying things, this way you can change things to coordinate before you commit.

Hope this helps!
