I am getting ready to purchase drywalling material for my garage conversion. It's small, one 20' wall w/two large windows and a 12' wall, rest is piece-meal. My floor to ceiling is 103", should I bother going to the trouble looking for 54" wide panels to run horizontal, or just get regular 4x10 and run it vertical?

If you have a long run horizontally, I would opt for the 54" stuff. It will make a much neater job. And you won't be wasting sheetrock by having to buy 10' lengths and cutting 17" off them. Now, be prepared, as this stuff is heavy, and you have to lift the first piece into place and hold it until it is fastened, so it will be a two person job, or rent a lift.

It is doubtfull you'll find 54" rock at any big box but any drywall supply house should have it in stock.

As mentioned, 54" might be hard to locate, but a Drywall Supply house is your best bet. Many other places- if they have it- only stock 54"x12', which wouldn't make too much scrap for you if that is all you can find.

I agree with Chandler- definately use 54" hung horizontally on any wall that is between 8 and 9ft.

Okay, you guys are the experts.....54" it is. I think I may have just located a supply house pretty local too.
