Hello, everyone.
I have a question regard the procedure on de-scaling or de-liming of tankless boiler. How do you do it?
I have a aquastar 125B gas model installed when the old 60 gal tank needed replacement about 5 years ago. It is not giving me any trouble other than normal gripes such as it take a bit of time delivering hot water to the other side of the house.
Just that I would like to maintain it as its been trouble free so far.
Note: I have read thru all the stickies and all other threads that have a mention of tankless water heater. But was not able to find any info on it other than a poster mentioning that he is doing the de-scaling on annual basics. My tankless is in the garage and bath is on the other end of the house about 80 feet away and kitchen is about halfway in the middle. Gets enough hot water after initial gallon of cold water.
Regards.

Hello, everyone.

Refer to manufacturers reccomendations. Depending on severity of hardness in water and buildup of lime in tankless heater, different approaches may be taken. Running Sulfuric Acid through it is a very quick way of "boiling" the coil, BUT, it could also cause severe burns, damage the water heater, void warranties, not to mention cause severe irritation to breathing passages. A much safer way to achieve the same results is to fill it with distilled vinegar and let it sit overnight. (Keurig coffee makers reccomend descaling the same way). In the morning, open the hot water on the tub or a faucet if you remove the aerator to prevent plugging it. If you don't have hard water, this very well might not be neccessary. Check with the manufacturer to find out what they reccomend.
