is it safe to insulate over my oil burner? it's in an area that's not heated. I'm worried about a fire hazard between the raw insulation and the oil burner...do I need to nail sheetrock or some other material between the insulation and the oil burner, to eliminate any fire hazards? Incidentally, the TV is located directly above and any insulation would help to muffle some of the burner noise from below.

As long as you observe the clearances to combustible materials, you can insulate above the oil burner. The clearance to a single wall flue pipe is 18". That is the hottest part of the unit anyway. Be more careful about closing in a boiler or furnace and restricting the air it needs for combustion.
