I have a single handle Delta kitchen faucet. I have a good flow of cold water, but when I turn the faucet to the hot position, there is no hot water--no water at all. I have a sprayer, seperate from the handle. The sprayer works with cold water, but not with hot water. Is this a diverter problem? If it is a diverter problem, is this something I can fix myself, without screwing something else up? Thanks

Hard to say... sounds like you've got "gunk" plugging the hot water line. Disconnect the hot water line from the valve and see if you've got hot water to the valve... if not, it's hot water supply - if yes, it's the valve.

Does it matter that the dishwasher is getting hot water? Does this change your diagnosis?

Not trying to speak for thezster, but usually the dishwasher connection tee's off before the supply goes up to the sink faucet, so it's likely that your dishwasher would still get hot water. I agree though, you likely have some scale build-up from the water heater, and it sounds like it's reached the hot water side of you faucet, causing a blockage. I think he was saying that either your faucet is clogged internally, or the shut off valve on the hot water supply to that faucet (if you have one) is clogged with buildup.

Hey thanks for the advice zster & rafterq. You were both right. I did a little investigation on my own. I took the faucet apart and found a piece of plastic in the diverter. I thought I had fixed the problem. Wrong, I then took the value off & checked it out. Still no hot water. I called a plumber and he blew the line out and found pieces of dip tube from the water heater. Long story short the dip tube is pretty well shot. The water heater is 13 years old and I need to replace it. Thanks for your help

gigig,

I understand your water heater is 13 years old, but having worked on them for years myself, I'd caution you to research before you "buy a bill of goods". Your dip tube can be replaced and if that is the only problem with your tank, then there's no need to replace the water heater.
Is it leaking from the tank? Is it not heating water?
